Legend of Saint Alexis


Legend of Saint Alexis - a medieval work of a hagiographical character, used as an example of the old Polish language. The oldest recorded version dates back to the 15th century. The monument of the Polish version is currently stored in the Jagiellonian Library in Krakow. The character of the main character gained fame in Western Europe, where his cult was transplanted from Byzantium. The popularity of this is the existence of verse versions of legends in many languages, eg in Old French and Italian.

The legend tells the story of an ascetic who has devoted his entire life to God, living in pain, sadness and misery.
