Leszek Śmigielski


Leszek Śmigielski (born 17 May 1927 in Tarnobrzeg, died 16 May 1994 in Olsztyn) - actor, director.

He was born in Tarnobrzeg. He graduated from Polish Philology at the Jagiellonian University. He began his theater education at the Groteska Theater in Cracow under the direction of Władysław Jarema. This theater shaped him as an actor and director. In the Cracow period he was also a lecturer at the PWST.

As a creator with 10 years of work experience, he became chief executive of Baja Pomorski in Toruń. He was an advocate of going beyond the traditional model of puppet theater through new repertoire proposals and contemporary means of theater expression. He transformed Toruń's puppet stage into a cultural center in Toruń, expanded relations between the theater and the writers of the region, created a unique Polish Asylum Artistic Club. After leaving Baja he was director of the Puppet Theater and Actor Harlequin in Katowice, then an actor and director on the Olsztyn puppet show.
