Common-Rail Direct Injection
Common-Rail Direct Injection (CDI) – silnik firmy Daimler-Benz.
The singularity of the new CDI engines is the so-called pilot injection. It takes place a fraction of a second before proper main injection, and its task is to preheat combustion space. This results in a faster ignition of the fuel, which entails a slower increase in pressure and temperature. This greatly improves the noise level of the combustion. Thanks to the pilot injection, the noise level of the new CDI engines is well below the values for comparable direct injection diesel engines and even below the values for today's pre-engine engines.
