Dominant culture

Dominant culture is a culture in the distribution perspective, represented by the majority of the society or by the society influencing diffusion into the local cultures of the smaller communities.

The dominant culture on the one hand influences local cultures, causing them to regress or even disappear. However, in the face of dominant culture, counter-cultural activities are undertaken in the form of counter-cultural movements or the creation of alternative cultures. Counter-culturalism, in contrast to dominant culture, often refers to elements of local cultures that are disappearing or repressed in the past by a culture alien to them. An example may be the use of black metal musicians for cultural elements that are characteristic of primitive European cultures displaced by Christianity.
