Richard Evan Schultes
Richard Evan Schultes, PhD, F.L.S. (born January 12, 1915, died April 10, 2001) is an American professor of natural sciences and director of the Harvard University Museum of Botany.
Internationally known as a botanist specializing in narcotic, medicinal and poisonous plants. Dr. Schultes spent about 14 years in South America living in the midst of the Indian tribes to learn directly how to use plants. Dr. Schultes is the recipient of numerous awards, among them a prize from the Colombian government for his work in the Amazon. He is a member of several American and foreign academies of science, including the National Academy of Natural Sciences. He is the editor of the journal "Economic Botanic" and author of many scientific papers. Together with Albert Hofmann he wrote the book "The Botany and Chemistry of Hallucinogens".
