Spahis (tur. Sipahi, arab. سپاهی) - French military forces, which significantly contributed to the conquest of the Maghreb by France. Formally the beginning of the squad was given: the law of 9 March 1831 and the regulations of 10 September 1834, 7 December 1841 and 2 July 1845. The last of the orders was the basis for the formation of three regiments of spahis stationed in Algiers, Oranie and Bône. There is only one regiment currently in Valence.
