USS Pulaski (1854)
USS Pulaski was a side-by-side steamer with a displacement of 401 tons / 395 tons long. He was named after Casimir Pulaski. After being built for commercial owners in 1854, it was nicknamed "Metacomet", was commissioned by the US Navy in 1858-1863 as the USS "Pulaski", after which it was sold. Metacomet was built in New York. He was chartered by the Navy in 1858 for use during his expedition to Paraguay. The monthly fee was $ 3,500, with a $ 50,000 option. During the expedition he was commanded by Lieutenant William H. Macomb. In March 1859 he was considered a unit that could not go out to sea and which would not reach the United States.
Then purchased and renamed USS "Pulaski". He operated in the waters of South America from the beginning of 1859 to January 22, 1863, when he was withdrawn from service and sold at auction in Montevideo. In the first months of 1865 it was purchased by Paraguay. Until about 1870 he operated as a civilian at Río de la Plata.
