Bacterial coating
Bacterial Bacteria - a thin layer visible in a light microscope surrounding the cell wall of a bacterial cell. This layer is well organized and not easily permeable. It is usually made of polysaccharides, but it can also be made up of other materials - for example, the anthrax capsule is made up of glutamic acid. Collars help protect against phagocytosis. They contain water that protects the bacteria from drying out. They also close access to bacteriophages and most hydrophobic toxic materials such as detergents.
