House of Quality - a method of gathering, analyzing and specification of user requirements, as part of the project management process. Named for the characteristic look of the analytical matrix.

It was first used in 1972 in Japan, at the Mitsubishi shipyard in Kobe. The purpose of QFD is to translate the needs and expectations of consumers into the characteristics of a product or service. Increasing pressures to reduce design costs and shorten lead times have led to the need to create a method that will translate the customer's conscious and unconscious customer demands into technical parameters while taking into account the technological capabilities, the relevance of the individual features, and the links between them. The QFD method has become a response to this need.
