Segregation

Segregation of one of the basic ecological processes by the fact that species belonging to different species occupy a separate, separated space within a given community, thus isolating themselves from other individuals in this space.

In sociology, the segregation process involves occupying separate areas, most often with regard to urban space, by communities belonging to different cultures, so that they can retain their identity. Natural segregation can contribute to the formation of ghettos. It is also possible to segregate by the political situation where some communities are isolated from others by law, eg racial segregation in schools.

In genetics - the separation of chromosomes in the resulting gametes, so that from each pair of homologous chromosomes in the diploid cell a haploid gamete receives only one chromosome. The result of this phenomenon is the segregation of genes (the free separation of genes belonging to different chromosomes).
