The boundaries of unbelief
The limits of unbelief - the book of philosopher and logic by Jan Woleński, published by Wydawnictwo Literackie in 2004.
In November 2004, the book was awarded the "Krakow Book of the Month" award. Contents
The pretext for establishing the boundaries of unbelief was to a large extent the Archbishop of Życiński's thesis contained in his Faithful Belief published by Wydawnictwo Literackie in 2003. The fundamental problem posed by Woleński is the possibility of dialogue between believers and non-believers. One source of conflict is, for example, understanding the notion of justifying arguments by both parties; Believers invoke here the supernaturality of religion and the Church as a necessary condition for understanding their arguments, while the unbelievers "betray" their principles by accepting this kind of sine qua non. Woleński also analyzes the activity of the Church as a social institution, which is in conflict between the postulate of unity and monolithism and uncontrolled individual elements.
Apart from the problem of rationalism, an important element of the book is the criticism, from the epistemological point of view, expressed by, among others, Gill's statement: "The mere fact that the evidence of the non-existence of God desires the thought that the faith in its existence already exists." The need for trust is actually one of the fundamental needs of man, but it does not allow the author to identify faith with religion. List of chapters
