USS Champion (1777)

Champion of the bride serving in the Continental Navy. Committed by Captain James Josiah, he sailed the Delaware River in the Pennsylvania State Navy during the American Revolution. In this effort, he tried to hinder British efforts to establish maritime communications with his Philadelphia units in the autumn of 1777.

After several months of struggling in difficult conditions, American ships attempted to cross Philadelphia. The ships of the Pennsylvania state were underway, but the continental fleets, including the "Champion", were burned down by their own officers on November 21, 1777, when the tides and winds changed direction and prevented the task.
