APIC (Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller) - A chip that enables hardware interruptions in computerized multiprocessor systems manufactured by Intel. It was implemented in an Intel 82093AA chip that is mounted on all of its multiprocessor motherboards. APIC is a distributed system: APIC I / O is part of the chipset, local APIC is inside the processor casing (in case there are several processors, each has its own APIC). Both communicate with each other through ICC lines. The main task of APIC is to handle hardware interruptions. Interrupts are recorded by the I / O APIC, which then informs the local APIC.
