Palmitylacja
Palmistry, palmitate, palmitoylation - lipid modification of proteins, by attaching to the protein molecule palmitic acid residues, through the amino acid residue of cysteine.
Most palmitation occurs by forming a thioester linkage between the cysteine protein residue and the carbonyl carbonyl carbide. It is then called S-palmitation, because the bond is made by the sulfur atom.
Palmitriding can also take place by forming an amide bond between the palmitic acid molecule and the cysteine residue of the protein. Then it is called N-palmitation, because the bond is made by the nitrogen atom.
