Polemology


Polemology (warlords, war, battle, battle) is a field of research on wars. The study deals with explaining the causes, sources, determinants of wars and armed conflicts.

Polemology is a scientific discipline that deals with the study of wars and armed conflicts in an interdisciplinary perspective. They examine their nature and conditions, location in time and space, determine their periodicity, intensity, cause-effect relationships and typology. Polemology explores armed conflicts and wars: past, present and future.

The main methodological basis of this scientific discipline is the profound belief that the knowledge of war (conflicts) leads directly to the knowledge of peace. He is involved in Peace Research, and his task is to study the rhythm of wariness. Polemical studies are based on many areas, including demography, economics, sociology, ethnography, or international relations.

The creator of the term is the French researcher, sociologist and economist Gaston Bouthoul (1896-1980). Representatives of the polemics are P. Sorokin and Q. Wright.
