He came from a peasant family. He attended rural school, then in Pasym and at the gymnasium in Königsberg, where he also studied theology in 1776-1780. He became a teacher of the cathedral chapel in Kielce, since 1786 the military chaplain (Polish and German). For a quarter of a century (1795-1820) he was the parish priest of the Polish evangelical parish church of St. Nicholas at the Steindamm. From 1797 (or 1798) he was also the director (director) of the Polish Seminary at the University of Konigsberg, since 1803 the official translator of the provincial authorities. He translated religious and secular publications, including school textbooks, as well as his own poems written for the Masurian people, among whom he was promoting reading. He maintained contacts with the Polish intellectual community, among others. with Samuel Bogumił Lind, Julian Ursyn Niemcewicz (visiting in 1817) and Krzysztof Celestyn Mrongowiusz.
