Quick time event (QTE) - An element of some computer games, which is a form of interactive movie interrupter, where the player is required to press the corresponding key on the screen. Failure results in a loss of play or a need to repeat the sequence from the beginning. This is intended to give the player a sense of control over the passage.

YĆ« Suzuki, the creator of Shenmue in 1999, was the creator of the quick time event in which it was first revealed. In Shenmue, the failure of the QTE sequence causes a complete loss. Other games, such as the Ninja Blade, force the player to repeat the wrong QTE sequence to progress in the game.
