Room in Rastatt

Europe according to the Treaties of Rastatt and Utrecht

Peace in Rastatt - peace concluded on 7 March 1714 between Austria and France in Rastatt, ending the Spanish Succession (1700-1714). Some countries have agreed their peace conditions already in April 1713 in a room in Utrecht. A separate article: Utrecht Room 1713.

One year after the Utrecht peace, Emperor Charles VI obtained from the war of France and Spain:

France and Great Britain have reached an agreement guaranteeing equilibrium in Western Europe and in the colonies. In 1718 the Netherlands and Austria joined him in creating the so-called. "Czwórprzymierze." This led to the war for Italy (the Spanish war with the Anglo-French-Austrian coalition), in which Sabaudia exchanged with Austria in 1720 - taking Sardinia in exchange for Sicily. The rulers of Sabaudia also received the title of Kings of Sardinia.

According to the Treaty of Rastatt Austria received the Austrian Netherlands, which Charles VI Habsburg wanted to exchange for Bavaria, but neither France nor the mediators (United Kingdom, the Netherlands) have agreed to this. Representatives of the states at the congress in Rastatt Bibliography
