Jan Želivský

Jan Želivský (1380 - 9 March 1422) - Czech preacher and radical representative of the Hussites.

He was a very popular preacher in the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the New Town of Prague. He led the procession through the streets of Prague, which ended with the first defenestration of Prague (30 July 1419), which was one of the events that led to the Hussite wars.

He was one of the four hussars of the Hussites. During the second anti-Hussite crusade, he possessed almost supreme power over the people of Prague. At the synod on July 4, 1420, he gained practically unlimited power in Prague.

In the period of civil wars between the various Hussites, Jakubka of Střibra was arrested by the city council of Prague and beheaded on March 9, 1422. Jakub Vlk was succeeded by his successor.
