Mars - the term generally referring to the second floor of rigging on sailing ships. It consists primarily of stengi (exactly marsstengi, although the term is practically not used), the stays hung on the stairs, that is marsreje and the sails of these rei, that is marsle.
Specifically, mars is the place where the mast and the stave mast are connected, and the platform located at this point to which the stenons are attached. In newer designs, both the place and the strut, which is the remnant of the platform, are usually called salings.
From the mid-nineteenth century to the beginning of the 20th century, the light marauders (up to 37 mm) and machine guns (so-called combat mars) were mounted on Mars platforms. Bibliography
