Shravasti Dhammika - Born in Australia in 1951, in a Christian family. He passed away at the age of 18. In 1973 he went to Thailand with the intention of becoming a monk, but the monasteries he saw there did not impress him.

He went further - to Laos, Burma, until he finally reached India. For the next three years he traveled to India learning yoga and meditation. Eventually he was ordained a monk by Venerable Matiwell Sangharatna, the last disciple of the Anagarika Dharmapala.

In 1976, Shravasti Dhammika went to Sri Lanka where he studied paleontology in Sri Lanka Vidyalaya, where he later became one of the founders and teachers of the Meditation Center in Nilambe, near Kandy. Since then, he has spent most of his time in Sri Lanka and Singapore. Bhante Dhammika - so called his disciples and friends - wrote many articles and over 25 books on Buddhism and related topics. He is also well known for his public appearances and lectures on Theravada Buddhism at the European Buddhist Millennium Conference in Berlin in 2000. Besides the philosophy of Buddhism and meditation, bhante Dhammika also dealt with the historical topography of Buddhism and the phenomenon of pilgrimage, traveled through India and other areas related to Buddhism.

He is also interested in Indian history, art and botany.
