Abora III

Abora III flows from New York Abora III - a ship made of reeds and ropes in the style of old Egyptian boats. Built to cross the North Atlantic from New York, in the United States, to Pontevedra, Spain. Lead researcher Dominique Görlitz, a biologist at the University of Bonn and a close friend of Thora Heyerdahl, decided to show that it was possible to sail between Africa and America even before the end of the last glaciation (about 14,000 years ago). The captain of the ship was Winfield Burmeister.

The ship's hull was constructed by Indians from the Bolivian people of Aymara using natural materials and simple tools available or made by humans in the Stone Age. The hull was 12 m long and 4 m wide. He weighed 10 tons. It had an 11 meter mast and a 60 m² sail. The crew was 11 people. Abora III sailed from New York on July 11, 2007. After a 56-day cruise and over 2,000 nautical miles, the cruise was canceled due to damage to the boat. The Azores have run out of 550 Mm. Bibliography
