Amazon Plains
Amazon Basin River among the Amazon rainforest
Most of its area lies in the Amazon basin.
The Amazonian lowland lies in a humid equatorial climate that is characterized by low daily and annual temperature fluctuations and heavy precipitation. The annual rainfall totals an average of 2000 mm.
The lowlands are bordered by the Andes to the west, the Orinoc lowlands and the Gujran highlands to the north, and the Brazilian highlands to the south.
The geological basin for the lowland is the Amazon Basin constructed of sedimentary rocks. In the Amazonian lowlands there are reddish soil of red color.
Characteristic plants for the Amazonian lowland forests are palm trees, rubber trees, lianas, maples and American tulips and Brazilian nuts.
The typical animals for the Amazonian Lowlands are:
Large areas of equatorial forests in the region remained untouched and only recently have been explored. Amazon wood is exported to Western Europe and the United States. Worse species are sold in the local market.
On the outskirts of the forest, where the climate is somewhat more favorable, more and more crop fields are being established, cutting down and firing the forest. Large damage is also caused by the exploitation of mineral deposits.
The largest tribes living in the Amazon Plains are: Tikuna, Yanomami, Xavante and Guajajara.
