In the academic world, special education units, such as lifelong learning centers, university extensions (United States), departments for continuing education (Europe), are responsible for developing lifelong learning. In Poland, such role includes, among others, University of Jagiellonian University and Center for Development of Non-stationary Education SGH. An interesting form of education is the universities of the third century, bringing together older people and organizing them in thematic groups. People's universities used to play the same role, serving a wide range of social education.
