Jan Kaszuba
Jan Kaszuba (born May 18, 1921 in Bialystok, Poland, October 15, 2007) is a Polish activist, entrepreneur and president of the Polish Canadian Congress in 1980-1986, chairman of the Polish-Polish Community Council, co-founder of the Polish-Canadian Chamber of Commerce . Graduate of the National College of Rubber Technology and the Chemistry of the Polytechnic in England. After the outbreak of World War II he participated in Polish defense activities as a scout in Gdynia. He was imprisoned by the German occupier and was arrested by the Gestapo in 1942, for four months he was detained in a Gdansk prison. Next, the prisoners of the concentration camps of Stutthof and Mauthausen-Gusen, where he was rescued in 1945, liberated by American troops. Soldier of the 2nd Corps of the Polish Army in Italy. Since 1946, he has been living in the United Kingdom, and since 1953, has emigrated to Canada where he founded his own company in 1960.
He was among others the president of the Circle No. 20 of the Association of Polish Veterans, organizer of the Polonia meeting with Pope John Paul II in 1984 during his pilgrimage to Canada.
