Aira (Japanese: 姶 良 カ ル デ ラ, Aira-karudera) is a longitudinal caldera of the super-volcano in the south of Kyushu Island (in the Kagoshima Bay), measuring 17x23 km. It was created during the eruption of 22 thousand. years ago. The explosion had a VEI-7 force, throwing 110 km³ of pyroclastic material into the air, which reached a distance of about 1,000 km.

In the interior of the caldera there is an active Sakurajima volcano, created 13,000. years ago.
