Bohuslav Balbín

Bohuslav Balbín Bohuslav Balbinus (born December 3, 1621 in Hradec Králové, died November 28, 1688 in Prague) is a Czech writer, historian, educator, Jesuit.

He was the author of many historical and touring works. He was a defender of the Czech language and a great Czech patriot against Germanization. His greatest work is Miscellanea historica regni Bohemiae (Diverse History of the Kingdom of Bohemia) and Dissertatio apologetica pro linqua Slavonica praecipue Bohemica (Defense of Slavonic, Czech in particular). To write them over for years, he collected information from archives and old libraries. Much merit for the initiative to write this work is also attributed to the Polish Jesuit Mikolaj Łęczycka as a person who influenced Balbina and encouraged him to work on this issue.
