The corporate office is located in New York, and is headquartered in Hook, in the United Kingdom. Virgin Media owns and operates its own fiber optic network, being the only national provider of this type in the United Kingdom. As of December 31, 2010, the company had 4.8 million cable customers, 3.78 million of them used television, 4.01 million of the broadband Internet, about 4.16 million of fixed line and about 3.07 million with mobile. History

The company was formed as a result of two mergers: in March 2006, through the merger of NTL and Telewest, which created NTL: Telewest, and later merged the company with Virgin Mobile UK.

In December 2005, after the merger of two UK's largest cable providers, NTL and Telewest, the company announced the launch of talks with Virgin Mobile UK on the merger of both companies. Virgin Mobile has rejected the first bid of £ 817m, saying NTL: Telewest is underestimating the value of its business. Richard Branson expressed his conviction that the offer after the amendment could be accepted. In January 2006, NTL: Telewest offered £ 961m, and on April 4 of that year the rate was again raised to £ 962.4m. According to reports, Branson accepted a cash payment and shares, resulting in a 10.7% stake in the newly formed company. The merger was completed on July 4, 2006. It has created the UK's first quadruple-play provider, offering cable TV, Internet, and mobile and fixed-line telephony. In February 2007, the company was renamed Virgin Media.
