Wilhelm Mommsen
Wilhelm Mommsen (born January 25, 1892 in Berlin, died May 1, 1966 in Marburg) is a German historian. Grandson of well-known German historian, Nobel Prize winner, Theodor Mommsen, father of Wolfgang and Hans Mommsen. He graduated from the University of Berlin (1922), the title of Master's thesis: Richelieu, Elsaß- und Lothringen. Lecturer at the University of Göttingen, since 1929 professor at the University of Marburg. In 1940 he joined the NSDAP. After the fall of Hitler and forced denerization, he returned to work at the university. His work includes many works related to nineteenth-century political and social movements. In Poland his best-known work is published in 1995 by Bismarck, a biography of the German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck.
