Dimityr Gorow

Dimitri Gorow on the relief in Peszter

Dimitri Ivanov Gorow (born June 28, 1840 in Pszter, died December 4, 1881 in Trieste) is a Bulgarian independence activist, industrialist.

In his early youth he left his home town and settled in Giurgiu. With his industriousness, ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit, he managed to accumulate considerable capital, with the help of which he opened a candle and soap factory. He married the sister of an outstanding activist for Bulgarian independence, Angela Kynczew. He also became involved in the national affair, devoting most of his money to her. He funded insurgent troops, such as the famous Hajji Dimitri and Stefan Karadza, and also helped impoverished rebels. In 1876 he devoted himself to organizing the largest Bulgarian insurrection, the April Insurrection. His means allowed Christ Botew to buy printers and form and set up a chariot that had joined the uprising. Sam Gorow took part in the Serbo-Turkish War in 1876 and, together with Liuben Karawelov, in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. Having sold all his fortune he eventually remained without a means of life. He died of illness three years after Bulgaria regained his independence.
