Inco Superstack
Komin Inco Superstack. Inco Superstack - a chimney of 380 meters located in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. It is the second tallest building in the world (after the GRES-2 power plant in Kazakhstan) and the second highest building in Canada (after CN Tower).
Between 1972 and 1987 he was the world's tallest chimney. It is located in the world's largest nickel mill in Sudbury. The chimney was built to dissipate sulfur and other impurities in the metallurgical processes and lead them out of the city. As a result of the construction of such a high chimney, the environmental disaster in the immediate vicinity of Sudbury has been halted. After building the Inco Superstack, the poisonous gases are dispersed within a radius of 240 kilometers. The negative effect, however, was the acidification of about 7,000 lakes located in that area as a result of acid rain. In order to stop another catastrophe, 90% of the sulfur dioxide emissions were reduced in the 1990s.
