Marek Okólski


Marek Okólski (born in 1944 in Częstochowa) - Polish demographer and economist; Professor, Head of the Department of International Economic Relations at the Lazarski University in Warsaw, 1993- 1960, Director of the Research Center for Migration at the University of Warsaw, Chairman of the Migration Research Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, former professor at SWPS, Humanities and Social Sciences University in Warsaw. In 1966 he graduated from the Faculty of Political Economy at the University of Warsaw, and in 1970 at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Lodz he obtained a doctoral degree in economics. Habilitated in 1978 at the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Warsaw, where in 1966-2011 he went through all levels of scientific career - from assistant to professor to professor, Demographics Department and the inter-catholic team of the Polish Policy Research Group. He specializes in the issues of great social transformations, demographic research and migration. He lectured at many renowned academic institutions in Europe, USA and Australia. He worked in the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and was an expert in the Polish government and several international organizations. Member of the Government Population Council. For his scientific achievements, he has been awarded numerous awards by the Minister of Science (recently in 2012 for his achievements) and the Polish Academy of Sciences.

He was a member of PZPR and instructor of ZHP.

In 2003 he was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta. Selected publications
