Ameloblastyna
Ameloblastin, also known as amelin, is an enamel protein. Ameloblastine accounts for about 5-10% of all enamel proteins. AMBN is expressed in cells responsible for the production of enamel, ameloblast, in a process called amelogenesis. Although poorly understood, the role of ameloblastin is probably to regulate the growth of enamel hydroxyapatite crystals and enamel mineralization during its development. Mutations in the AMBN gene located in the 4q21 locus are responsible for the inherited autosomal dominant form of amelogenesis imperfecta. The AMBN gene is also the candidate gene for one of the dentinogenesis imperfecta forms.
