Christian Democratic Union (CHD) - Ukrainian center-right and Christian Democratic party. History

The party was formed in March 1997 under the name of the Christian-People's Union (Християнсько-народний союз). a small group of deputies of the Verkhovna Rada. Volodymyr Stretowcz was the head of the party. In 1998 the group took part in the parliamentary elections under the list "Forward, Ukrainians!", Without any credentials. One year later the Union gave support to the presidential candidate Yevhen Marczak.

Before the parliamentary elections in 2002 the party joined the Our Ukraine Bloc, whose leader was elected MP. In 2003, after an unsuccessful attempt to unite other small Christian Democratic parties, the group was transformed into a Christian Democratic Union. In the 2004 presidential election Chyd supported Viktor Yushchenko and his activists actively participated in the Orange Revolution.

In the 2006 parliamentary elections, the party within the framework of Our Ukraine received 3 seats. In July 2007 the party joined the coalition Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense for a joint take-off in the early parliamentary elections. He was introduced to the Supreme Council of the 6th term by two deputies. In 2010, a number of deputies (including Dawid Żwanija, who became party secretary) joined the party and the formal leadership of the party was handed over to the collegiate board. Bibliography
