Ontario Hydro

Ontario Hydro - Since 1974 the official name of the public company Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario, Canada, was created in 1906 under the Power Comission Act to build high voltage power lines generated by private hydroelectric power plants in the Niagara area. Falls to the province.

Shortly after its creation, the company acquired its own means of generating electricity by purchasing private power plants, and then by designing and building its own new power plants. As far as possible to build hydroelectric power plants, the company began to design and build thermal power plants and then nuclear power plants. In the 1990s it was one of the largest companies producing electricity in North America.

In April 1999, on the basis of a decision by the Ontario provincial government, Hydro was split into five separate companies. Several of them were to be privatized, but the process has not yet been completed.
