Szymon Firkowicz
Szymon Firkowicz (Karaim Szemaja), born 1897 in Trakai, died in Vilnius in 1982) is a Karaim cleric, writer and poet living in Vilnius.
He worked as a manager of the Karaim State School in Trakai, the councilor of Trakai, the chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Cooperative Cooperative, the chairman of the agricultural circle, the vice president of the bank supervisory board. Member of the Management Board of the Historical Society of the Monuments of the City of Trok, member of the Editorial Board of "Karaimska's Thoughts" and the Polish Oriental Society.
In the years 1920-1982 he served as a cleric in the troika (called hazzan on 20 September 1920, from 1922 to 1928 he was hachana, and from 1929 he was a hazzan). He has been awarded the Golden Cross of Merit for the Karaim Religious Association.
He was parodying poetry and prose, creating in the language of Karaim. Author of more than 200 literary works. He wrote, among others. poems lyrical and moody, a lot of attention devoting in their works religious motifs. He was also an author of stage arts. He collected folklore passages and legends of his people. He translated into the Karaim language a significant part of Adam Mickiewicz's poetic output.
