Gell-Manna-Nishijima pattern

The Gell-Mann-Nishijim formula is an equation describing the properties of hadrons, combining quantum numbers, ie binary number B, strangeness of S and isospin Iz, with electric charge Q. , Murray Gell-Mann (1956).

This equation has the following form:

Q = I from + 1 2 ( B + S ) {\displaystyle Q=I_{z}+{\frac {1}{2}}(B+S)}

The original design was based on experiments. Now it is understood as the consequence of the introduction of the quark model.

In simplified terms, the electric charge Q of a particle is related to its isospin Iz and to the hyperlink Y below:

Q = I from + 1 2 Y {\displaystyle Q=I_{z}+{\frac {1}{2}}Y}
