The roots of the organization go back to 1922, when the Central Lithuanian authorities expelled from Vilnius 33 Lithuanian intellectuals who were threatening the local political order. Among the exiles were the brothers Mykolas and Viktoras Biržiška and Fr. Mečislovas Reinys. Inspired by returning from the USA Fr. Fabijonas Kemišis founded the Wilnian Association, which aimed to popularize the truth about the so-called. As a result, the implementation of the Soviet-Lithuanian agreement of July 1920 on the inclusion in Lithuania of the Grodno, Suwalki and Vilnius regions.
The signing of the concordat signed by the Polish authorities in February 1925, which sanctioned the membership of the Vilnius region to Poland, was a direct impetus for the establishment of the Union. On April 4, 1925, the Kaunas District Court registered the Union.
The first test of the activity of the new organization was the fifth anniversary of Vilnius's occupation by the Żeligowski army on 9 October 1925. The association was able to undertake propaganda activities consisting in the organization of readings, leaflets and leaflets, agitation among young people and students - this was to support the Vilnius myth, which was the basis of the Lithuanian national consolidation at the threshold of the 20th century.
The organization was dissolved by President Smetoni on 25 November 1938.
