United Nations Millennium Project
The United Nations Millennium Project is part of the Millennium Declaration, adopted at the UN General Assembly in 2000. The project focuses on issues of war and peace, health and poverty and in particular requires rich countries to take action to improve living conditions in the world, particularly in the so-called " Third World.
The Millennium Project identified a number of specific quantitative and time-bound targets to be achieved. Hence, there are eight main goals - the Millennium Development Goals document. The deadline for implementation is 2015.
As a support to the Millennium Development Goals, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and UNDP head Mark Malloch Brown have launched a program to develop a strategy for achieving the Millennium Development Goals pursued by Jeffrey Sachs.
The Millennium Project may involve organizations and individuals also from outside the UN.
In September 2015, the UN General Assembly approved further Development Goals.
