Caspar Abel


Caspar Abel (born 14 July 1676 in Hindenburg, died 11 January 1763 in Westdorf) is a German theologian, historian and poet. The son of a preacher, he was educated to the priesthood in Braunschweig and Helmstadt. From 1696 he was rector of the school in Osterburg (Altmark), from St John's School in Halberstadt. In 1718, he became a preacher in Westdorf.

Author licznych dzieł historycznych i krajoznawczych: Prussian and Brandenburg Empire and State History (2 t., 1710), Prussian and Brandenburg State Geography (2 t., 1711), German and Saxon Antiquities (3 t., 1729-32) , Pen, city and country chronicle of the Principality of Halberstadt (1754). Był również autorem poezji okolicznościowych: Celebration of the Branbdenburg subjects (1700), illustration of a righteous preacher (1710). Tłumaczył również poezje Owidiusza i Nicolasa Boileau.
