Front Populaire Ivorienne, FPI - is a social democratic party operating in Côte d'Ivoire. The party was founded in 1982 by Professor of History, Laurent Gbagbo during the one-party rule of Félix Houphouët-Boigny. The FPI during the creation process was based on the French Socialist Party.
The party is now a full member of the Socialist International.
Gbagbo was elected from the Ivory Coast party list in 2000. In the last parliamentary elections held in 2002, the party won 96 of the 225 seats in parliament.
The party's president is Affi N'Guessan, the former Prime Minister of Côte d'Ivoire. With Gbagbo taking over as president, N'Guessan has been the leader and chairman of FPI.
