Ivan Bielaev (general)
Иван Тимофеевич Беляев (born 1875 in St. Petersburg, Russia, 19 January 1957 in Asunción, Paraguay) is a Russian general, honorary citizen of Paraguay. Participant of the First World War and the Civil War in Russia, b. George. He fought in the White Army in the south of Russia. During the Paraguayan war with Bolivia (1932-1935), along with other Russian officers, he fought on the side of Paraguay. Together with the Russian General Erne, he designed a series of earth fortifications, contributing to the success of the Paraguayan troops.
In 1937 he ended his military service. He fought for the rights of Paraguayan Indians. He headed the National Committee on Indian Affairs. He did not get any funding or land for the organization of the Indian colony. He was soon removed from his post. In April 1938, the premiere of the first Indian-American theater of Indian involvement in the Chaco War took place at the Asunción National Theater. The forty-one theater crew headed by Bielajev left for Buenos Aires, where she was very successful. In October 1943, Bielajew finally obtained funds for establishing the colony. In the following year he was reinstated as director of the National Indian Affairs Committee. He was awarded the title of general administrator of the Indian colony. Bielaev studied geography, ethnography, anthropology and linguistics.
