Nominal scale
Nominal scale - type of measuring scale. Variables are on a nominal scale when they take values (labels) for which there is no ordering of the nature of the given order.
Even if the values of the nominal variable are expressed numerically, these numbers are only contractual identifiers, so you can not perform arithmetic operations on them or compare them.
Examples of nominal variables: county of residence, sex.
Examples of non-nominal variables: car speed, age
A special case of the nominal scale is the dichotomous scale, where there are only two possible values of the variable (eg sex, answers to yes / no questions). Permissible statistical operations
