Nominal scale


Nominal scale - type of measuring scale. Variables are on a nominal scale when they take values ​​(labels) for which there is no ordering of the nature of the given order.

Even if the values ​​of the nominal variable are expressed numerically, these numbers are only contractual identifiers, so you can not perform arithmetic operations on them or compare them.

Examples of nominal variables: county of residence, sex.

Examples of non-nominal variables: car speed, age
