Peter Leon


Petras Leonas (born November 16, 1864 in Leskawo near Prenov, died May 12, 1938 in Kaunas) - Lithuanian law professor, judge and advocate, Minister of Justice and Home Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania.

He graduated from Marijampole High School to continue his studies at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University of Moscow. After a year he decided to study law at the same university he graduated in 1889.

In the years 1890-1893 he worked in the Suwałki district court, and in 1893-1905 worked in the courts of Tashkent and Samarkand. He was involved in political activities - in 1907 he was elected a member of the II Duma of the Suwałki district from the list of cadets. He authored a project of Lithuanian autonomy within the Russian empire.

In Mykolas Sleževičius's cabinet he served as minister of justice, later he served as minister of interior affairs and administration. From 1922 he was active at the University of Lithuania in Kaunas, where he headed the Faculty of Law. Authoritative control (person):
