Stargard's disease


Stargardt's disease (STGD) or the yellow-spotted bed (Latin fundus flavimaculatus) are two forms of a single genetic disease of the visual system caused by a mutation in the ABCA4 gene, less often CNGB3 or ELOVL4. The disease is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner. This disease is the most common juvenile macular dystrophy.

The disease was first described by the Berlin ophthalmologist Karl Stargardt in 1909. Bibliography
