Chrysanthemum Throne

Chrysanthemum Throne - popular in the West (since the 19th century) refers to the imperial throne of Japan as well as the institution of the Japanese monarchy and the emperor as head of state. Chrysanthemum (Japanese kik) is the emblem of the emperors of Japan. The Chrysanthemum Throne is considered to be the oldest, still-dominant, dynasty of the world. The Japanese chronicle Nihon Shoki states that the Japanese Empire was founded in 660 BC. All other emperors are considered descendants of the first emperor Jinmu. The current Emperor Akihito is his 125th direct descendant.
