July Johan Killytis


Jūlijs Johans Ķīlītis (born July 23, 1902 in Sloka, Latvia, on the border of Russia, March 28, 1961, in Coventry) is a Latvian military commander, commanding the 1st battalion of the 34th Grenadier Regiment. SS Grenadier Regiment, 2nd Battalion 33th Grenadier Regiment SS and 33th Grenadier Regiment SS 15th Grenadier Division SS at the end of World War II

He served in the Latvian Army in the 4th Infantry Regiment in Valmiera, and then as an instructor in the military academy as a captain. After the occupation of Latvia by the German army in 1941, he cooperated with the occupying forces. In April 1943 he joined the Legion of the Latvian SS, receiving the ggggggg Waffen-Hauptsturmführer der SS. On April 7, 1944, he was the commander of the 1st Battalion of the 34th Grenadier Regiment of the SS 15th Grenadier Division. On June 1 he was promoted to the Waffen-Sturmbannführer der SS. From 7 to 20 February 1945 he briefly took command of the Regiment, after which he was assigned to the division staff. However, as of February 27, he became the head of the security department. From March 27, he commanded the 2nd Battalion of the 33rd Grenadier Regiment of SS, and until the end of the war with the entire Regiment. He managed to get into the occupied territories of the Allies of the West. He emigrated to the United Kingdom where he died on March 28, 1961.
