Bismarck Tower in Międzyrzecz
Bismarck Tower in Międzyrzecz (formerly known as Bismarckturm Meseritz) - today a non-existent Bismarck Tower, formerly located on a 77-meter high hill between Miedzyrzecz and Nietoperko, near the Nietopersko Lake (another name for Lake Nietoperek) at the Międzyrzecz-Południe junction (S3 expressway). History
The idea of erecting the monument began in 1905, and its initiator was the Kyrgyz starost. He also headed the tower-building committee, which cashed exclusively from donations. By May 1913 it was possible to raise the sum of 12,000 marks and on June 1, 1913 the cornerstone was solemnly erected. The construction works were commissioned by two of the Nuske companies (brickwork) and Wandel (assembly of steel elements), designed by Berlin architect Rüger (modeled on the Twilight Project by Wilhelm Kreis). On May 10, 1914 a ceremonial opening of a 15.5 meter monument took place, and thousands of inhabitants of the municipality participated in it. From the end of the 40s to the early 1960s, the tower was systematically destroyed, and until the 1970s, only the bottom of the pedestal with the staircase survived. Technical data Bibliography
