Feuillants (Feuillants) - a political club of the times of the French Revolution. Its official name was 1789 Association. The club was created on July 16, 1791 as a result of the secession of the Jacobin club, whose politics was gradually radicalized. The Feuillants, as the place of their meetings, chose the Bernardine Convent of the Feuillants, so that they began to call it that group. The Feuillanians favored the constitutional monarchy and the role of the king as the supreme executive. At the same time, they propagated secularism and conducted moderate anti-clerical activity. Their main program was the democratization of public life, the fidelity of the constitution, and the end of the revolution. The Feuillans were the strongest political club in the Legislative, and inwardly they were divided into two orientations: the lamentaries (gathered around Alexandre de Lameth) and the fayetites (gathered around Marie Joseph de la Fayette), who were from the royal court. persona non grata).
