Stiepan Apraksin
Stiepan Fiodorowicz Apraksin
Stiepan Fyodorovich Apraksin (born August 10, 1702, died 17 August 1758) is a Russian Field Marshal, commander of the Russian Army in the first year of the Seven Years War.
He first distinguished himself in combat in 1737 during the assault on Oczakov when he was under the command of Burkhard Münnich. In 1742 he became Vice-President of the Military College (equivalent to the Ministry of War). As chief commander of forces sent to East Prussia during the Seven Years' War, he won the August 30, 1757 victory at Groß-Jägersdorf. Because he did not use the victory and withdrew for Niemen, he was dismissed from office and the case was forwarded to the commission. Apraksin did not finish the investigation, dying earlier to heart attack.
